Deacon Fausto Duran

Deacon Fausto Duran

Deacon Fausto was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic, on October 3rd, 1937. He was baptized and confirmed in the Cathedral of that same city.

In 1954 he entered the Salesian Seminary in La Habana, Cuba and studied Middle School and High School.

In the Seminary, he studied Philosophy, Latin, Greek, Italian, English, and French.

In 1972 he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education, in Pedro Henriquez Ureña National University, in Santo Domingo.

He was Professor of Theology, Philosophy, Logic, and Sociology in El Cibao's Technological Catholic University, and at Pedro Henriquez Ureña National University he taught Legal Ethics, Critical History, Spanish, and French.

He married Daniela Canela, and together had five children, three girls and two boys.

On August 24, 1986 he was ordained a permanent Deacon by Bishop Juan A. Flores at the Parish of St. Augustine in the Diocese of La Vega, Dominican Republic.

He served as Deacon in the Diocese of La Vega, where he was Director of Campus Ministry. He also served in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, in the Diocese of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and in the Diocese of Brooklyn-Queens.

He developed an extensive biblical studies program, taught RCIA, and led retreats in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

Currently, he is serving at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in Prospect Heights of the Diocese of Brooklyn-Queens.
